Expert adviser for research studies  - particularly allergy risks in teenagers and young adults

Food safety risk assessments which address allergy risks including bespoke food allergy training and materials for a wide range of audiences across the UK and beyond. Current projects involve:

  • The University of Southampton - Lecturer on MSc Allergy course 

  • The University of Surrey - Research into eating out / shopping behaviour of nut / peanut  allergic consumers for the Food Standards Agency

  • Work with the Laboratory of the Government Chemist / LGC developing analytical methods and tools to protect allergic people

Bespoke in-house training for nurseries - Developing Food Safety and Health and Safety policies and practice

For the Anaphylaxis  Campaign:

Continuing liaison to protect allergic consumers through improved food safety and food information - also new EU Food labelling /  information legislation

Supporting families and investigating allergy-related deaths and 'near misses' (including managing a joint project with  Asthma UK, on-going research with Dr Richard Pumphrey and providing expert evidence and background information for HM Coroners)

Food Allergy Training Kits (with the DVD Pack /  extra Child Care / Schools Packs) are proving very popular with a range of clients from factories to school meals, and hotel and leisure businesses. These continue to prove a phenomenal success and feedback has been very positive.  Hazel Gowland,  Dr Lisa Ackerley and her team at Hygiene Audit Systems are currently involved in improving allergen management  and delivering bespoke training for food safety and food standards professionals  and food business trainers. 

Open courses are now available through the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH).
